Dr. Mark Kovacs, Phd, CTPS, MTPS, CSCS Conference Chair
Dr. Mark Kovacs is a performance physiologist, researcher, author, speaker and coach with an extensive background training and researching tennis players, and the iTPA Executive Director. He formally directed the Sport Science, Strength & Conditioning and Coaching Education departments for the United States Tennis Association (USTA). He was an All-American and NCAA doubles champion in tennis at Auburn University and earned his PhD from the University of Alabama. He is a Certified Tennis Performance Specialist (CTPS) and Master Tennis Performance Specialist (MTPS) through the iTPA, and in 2012 he was the youngest ever recipient of the International Tennis Hall of Fame Educational Merit Award. He has worked with more than two dozen top professional tennis players on all aspects of physical training including John Isner, Robby Ginepri, Ryan Harrison and Sloane Stephens. |
Satoshi Ochi
Satoshi Ochi is currently the head strength and conditioning coach for the United States Tennis Association (USTA) where he oversees and manages the Strength and Conditioning / Athletic Training staff and programs the entire USTA Player Development Training Centers. He has more than 17 years of experience as a strength and conditioning coach including NCAA DI and USOC. Satoshi has worked with more than twenty top young American professional tennis players and several Jr. Grand Slam champions. Satoshi received his M.A. in Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Prior to receiving his master’s degree, Satoshi played Division I tennis for the Creighton University BlueJays and earned his B.A. in Exercise Science. Satoshi holds the National Strength and Conditioning Association's (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), and the International Tennis Performance Association’s (iTPA) Certified Tennis Performance Specialist (CTPS). Since 2004, Satoshi has received the NSCA’s Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach distinction (formerly known as Coach Practitioner), recognizing him as an elite strength and conditioning professional in the world. Satoshi also was a nominee of the 2001 NSCA College Strength and Conditioning of the Year. In addition to his role with the USTA, Satoshi also serves on the Advisory Board of the iTPA. Satoshi is based at the USTA National Training Center Headquarters in Boca Raton, FL. |
Robby Ginepri, former professional player
Robby retired from the ATP World Tour in 2015 having achieved a Top #15 professional ranking, an Olympian at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and making the Semi-Finals of the US Open in 2005 losing in five sets to Andre Agassi. Robby is currently the Director Tennis Programming at Ginepri Performance Tennis, which is a leading tennis academy based at Olde Towne Athletic Club in Marietta, Georgia. Robby has worked closely with the ITPA for many years serving on the iTPA Advisory Board. |
Ben Kibler, MD
Dr. Kibler is board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery. He provides services in shoulder, sports medicine, workers compensation, and surgical procedures. Dr. Kibler's professional interests include shoulder surgery, the upper extremity, shoulder pathology, scapula, acute knee injury surgery, sports medicine and arthroscopic surgeries of the knee, shoulder, ankle, and elbow, and biomechanics of tennis. |
Paul Lubbers, PHD, USTA
Paul Lubbers is currently the Sr. Director of Coaching Education and Performance for the United States Tennis Association (USTA). In his role he directs the USTA’s operations relating to both Coaching Education and Sport Science. He previously served as Administrator of Coaching Education at the USTA.
Prior to joining the USTA, Lubbers spent eight years as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. He was also a teaching professional at the South Fulton Tennis Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Lubbers earned his Master of Science degree from Indiana University in 1984. He went on to add a Ph.D. in Exercise and Sport Science from UNC Greensboro. Lubbers is an active speaker and writer, contributing to many conferences and publications associated with the leading world tennis organizations, including the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, International Tennis Federation (ITF), Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Mexican Tennis Federation, Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), and the United States Professional Tennis Association (USTPA). He is a member of both the USPTA and PTR. |
Neeru Jayanthi, MD
Dr. Jayanthi leads Emory's Tennis Medicine program and is considered one of the country’s leading experts on youth sports health, injuries, and sports training patterns, as well as an international leader in tennis medicine. He is currently the President of the International Society for Tennis Medicine and Science (STMS) and a certified USPTA teaching professional. He has also been a volunteer ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) physician for 15 years, serves as a medical advisor for the WTA (Woman’s Tennis Association) Player Development Panel, and is on the commission for the International Tennis Performance Association (ITPA). He has been selected to the board of directors for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) twice, and serves as a Consultant for the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness, Aspen Institute Sport and Society Program, and Mom’s Team. Dr. Jayanthi has won multiple AMSSM Foundation Research Grants for his collaborative research on early sports specialized training and overuse injury in young athletes. He previously was the medical director of primary care sports medicine at Loyola University Chicago for 12 years where he was voted a “Top Doctor” in the Chicagoland Suburbs prior to being recruited to Emory. He has been a course director nearly 30 times and has been an invited speaker over 150 times to local, regional conferences as well as at national academy conferences, international Sports Medicine, Tennis Medicine, USTA, USPTA, and PTR conferences. He has regularly helped with medical care at the NFL Combines, Chicago Marathon, Division 1 NCAA athletics, and numerous high schools. He has numerous publications, book chapters, and is a reviewer of several sports medicine journals and is an active teaching faculty at Emory University. Dr. Jayanthi, has been featured and/or appeared on ESPN, NPR, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post WGN news Sports Radio, WGN-TV news “Medical Watch,”, ABC news, CBS national radio, WGN and CLTV “Living Healthy” TV show, XM radio, and numerous other media outlets for his innovative research findings on junior tennis players and elite young athletes. |
CARL PETERSEN BPE, BSc.(PT)
Carl Petersen is a partner & physiotherapist at City Sports & Physiotherapy Clinic in Vancouver, Canada. He works with players ranging from elite Juniors to those on the WTA / ATP tour. As well he treats and trains athletes and weekend warriors from a variety of sports keeping them Fit to Play™ & Perform for over 30 years. Carl is an Internationally recognized and sought after speaker & is regularly found educating coaches, trainers, physiotherapists, physicians & athletes around the world. Tennis Specific Nutritionist and Dietician Page Love is an expert on sport nutrition and eating disorder issues particularly with elite athletics. In 1992, she founded Nutrifit Sport Therapy Inc., a company of professionals dedicated to helping clients reach their wellness goals through performance eating. She has worked with professional players, college teams as well as individual athletes. Her past and current clients include the ATP Men’s Professional Tennis Tour, the Women’s Professional Tennis Tour (WTA), U.S. Tennis Association, the Atlanta Braves, U.S. Figure Skating, and U.S. Synchronized Swimming and she served as a nutrition consultant during the Olympic Games in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004.Page’s tennis experience includes being a certified tennis teaching professional with the United States Professional Tennis Association and serves on both the USTA Sport Science Committee and the Sport Science Advisory Board for the Professional Tennis Registry. She played division one collegiate tennis at Baylor University and still plays competitive league tennis in Atlanta year round. |

Allistair McCaw

Michele Krause
Michele Krause is the Global Cardio Tennis Manager working for the Tennis Industry Association (TIA). Cardio Tennis is an engaging, group fitness activity consisting of fast paced tennis activities and games for players of all ability levels providing a full body calorie-burning workout. Michele has overseen the program since its inception in 2005 and today there are, 1.4 million Cardio Tennis participants in the US and the program has spread to over 30 countries. Michele oversees the entire Cardio Tennis program both in the US and internationally. Her responsibilities include all the day-to-day operations: administration, programming, curriculum, event planning, training and marketing. She manages the TIA Global Cardio Tennis Team, which is made up of 30 Trainers who assist her with training, educating and consumer events. She also serves as the coordinator for those countries who are in the process of establishing, launching or continued development of Cardio Tennis. She speaks at many industry conventions, (PTR, USPTA, IHRSA, ITA, ITF, PBI and USTA) meetings and events to provide ongoing education on the Cardio Tennis program. She also trains coaches how to deliver the product through national and international courses. Internationally she has conducted courses and launched the program in Portugal, the UK, the Caribbean, Ireland, Poland, Greece, Canada, Australia, China, South Africa, Czech Republic and Belgium. |
Oliver Stephens, CTPS, MTPS, PTR Master of Tennis (Performance & Development), PTR National Clinician and Tester, USPTA P-1
Oliver “Ollie” Stephens is an iTPA Master Tennis Performance Specialist and a PTR Clinician and Tester. He is certified as a PTR Professional in all 4 pathways and also holds the PTR Master of Tennis certification in Performance and Development coaching, one of two coaches in the States to hold both. Ollie has been published numerous times in PTR Magazine and has spoken at Regional, National and International conferences for the PTR and the ITPA. In 2001, Ollie was the PTR China coach of the year, in 2010 he was the PTR Illinois Coach of the year and in 2012, he was the PTR Tester of the Year. |
Lane Evans, TPT, CTPS, USPTA
Tennis Coach Lane Evans has been a tennis teaching professional for almost 35 years, 25 of them as a USPTA member. He spent 22 of those years as a Club GM as well. Lane holds a USPTA Elite Professional certification with the USPTA. He also holds certifications as both a Certified Fitness Trainer and a Certified Senior Fitness Specialist by the International Sports Science Association. Lane is also certified by the International Tennis Performance Association(ITPA) as a Certified Tennis Performance Specialist. He is also certified by the USPTA in Sports Science and is Chairman of the USPTA National Sports Science Committee and is Chairman of the Education Committee for USPTA Southern Division. Lane served as the President of USPTA North Carolina for the past two years and is now 1st Vice-President of the USPTA Southern Division Board of Directors. He is also the Chairman of the Pro Relations Committee for USTA NC and sits on the USTA North Carolina Board of Directors as Area 12 Representative. Lane is the Director of Tennis and Wellness at Champion Hills Club in Hendersonville, NC. He is a regular presenter at USPTA and USTA seminars and also consults with clubs all over the country on fitness, senior fitness programming and fitness center set-up and operations. Lane was a presenter at this year’s USPTA World Conference and also presented at the Grand Slam Coaches Conference in Melbourne, Australia in January during the Australian Open. |
Dean Hollingworth, CSCS, CTPS
Strength & Conditioning Specialist With over twenty years of experience in the health and fitness industry, Dean has established himself as a highly regarded fitness consultant. Being a certified personal trainer and strength and conditioning specialist, the Montreal native has extensive experience working with youths and young adults in helping them to develop speed, agility, coordination and strength. Dean’s rapid rise amongst the fitness community can be attributed to his honest dedication to excellence in his field. Working with various Quebec organizations as a youth fitness specialist has given Dean many opportunities to develop athletes in tennis, hockey, gymnastics and football. Dean’s strong passion for sports has led him to work and consult with both amateur and professional athletes including those belonging to prominent National teams. |
Jonathan Fraser, CTPS, MTPS
Strength & Conditioning Specialist Jonny has a wealth of experience in tennis having been a strength and conditioning coach for over seven years, having worked with a range of players from mini tennis to full time professionals. He has a particular interest in youth development. Jonny is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) alongside being a certified Level B coach with the GPTCA and a licensed tennis coach with the LTA. Jonny has certification as a master tennis performance specialist with the International Tennis Performance Association (iTPA). Academically he has an MSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Sheffield Hallam University and has also taught at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK teaching on sport science and sports coaching degrees. |
Richard Woodroof, TPT, CTPS
Richard Woodroof is the owner and Director of Training for RAW Tennis Performance in Boca Raton, FL. He is an ITPA-certified Tennis Performance Trainer; Speed, Agility & Quickness (SAQ) coach; a 20-year member of the USPTA and is USTA Sport Science Level-1 certified. Richard worked with the ATP 2011 Most Improved Player Alex Bogomolov, Jr and other ATP players including Jesse Levine as well as WTA players Anna Tatishvili and Heidi El-Tabakh. He also works with several Challenger and Futures pros. Richard trains some of the top junior players in the USTA and ITF players from Italy, Monte Carlo, Brazil, Canada, Kazakhstan, Trinidad and Mexico. Richard played tennis at the University of North Carolina and spent 18 years as a High Performance coach. Working in the tennis hotbed of Southern California, he worked with dozens of junior players who earned scholarships in every major NCAA conference. He spent time coaching on the WTA Tour and was also a college coach. Richard’s philosophy for training is “movement, not muscles” and he specializes in tennis movement. Joanna Goldin, CTPS
Originally from England, Joanna is a Physical Therapist with more than 25 years of experience. She went to Physiotherapy school in London and then relocated to the US in 1992, moving to Colorado. She worked in a variety of settings, specializing in Orthopedics and Sports Injuries and opened her own practice in 1999. She grew her practice to four clinics over 12 years and then sold her practice and moved to NJ in 2013. In 2008 she started as a Primary Health Care Provider on the WTA tour and continued in that role until 2013. In 2009 she became the Physical Therapist for the US Fed Cup team, a role that she still holds today. In addition for the last two years she has been working for the USTA at women’s Pro Circuit events in the US. Joanna also owned a teaching company in Colorado and has lectured to Physical Therapists all over the world. She also co-authored a text book used in Physical Therapy Assistant schools. |
