Alexandra Poorta, CTPS
Dutch International Alex Poorta recently coached Michaela Gordon (Junior world ranking ITF 41, WTA 700) to a 3rd round appearance at 2016 Junior French Open. Poorta's work on the WTA gained momentum over the last two years working with former USC standouts Zoe Scandalis (WTA 963) and Danielle Lao (WTA 270) assisting the Lao to her first $25,000 ITF Tournament victory in Baton Rouge 2015. In addition to working on the WTA Tour Alex has made a continued impact with ITF juniors. She has coached the National Girls 18's Team for Northern California (sectionals) in 2014, 2015 and 2016. At the 2016 Maze Cup Poorta lead Northern California's top two juniors in each age category to a team victory over Southern California. Alex played collegiate tennis at Saint Mary's College of California where she was top 25 in D1 singles. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology. After gaining a world ranking as a professional tennis player she accepted the Head Coach role at Dominican University in 2012. This began her collegiate coaching career which resulted in her return to her alma mater Saint Mary's College as an assistant coach (2014-2015) helping lead them to the NCAA tournament. Poorta is deeply motivated to engage her players at their highest level, when she is not traveling to coach them in competitions you will find her on the court teaching or squeezing in a hit for herself. Alex resides in Danville, CA. "Gaining my CTPS certification has greatly impacted my approach to coaching my athletes. The exam's design focused my preparation as it not only provided valuable information but required understanding." |
